All I was after going in that day was the tags and registration. If they had entered a non-existent lien way back in 2007, that would explain why I don't have a title. I have a hunch that maybe the regional NH-DMV office made a mistake that didn't get caught until now. The best he could offer was that their employee who handles the office paperwork would be in on Monday and might be able to help. He said that although they do use *** Auto Finance LLC, that their records showed that I had paid cash outright. So I called the dealership and talked to the same salesman who originally sold me the truck in 2007. The gal said that they can't release a non-existent lien and suggested I call the dealership where I bought the car, maybe they could help. I told them that the NH-DMV was not going to issue me a title unless *** Auto Finance LLC signed a letter saying the "lien" had been released. The gal I talked to said that based on the VIN and my social security number they never heard of me and have no record of ever having had anything to do with me. I had never heard of *** Auto Finance LLC until I got the DMV letter so I called them to ask why they think they have a lien against a vehicle that I paid cash for. I gave up looking for it and applied for a replacement title and instead of sending me a title in the mail, NH-DMV sent me a letter saying they won't send me a title because a "prior lien has not been released." Specifically it says This is odd because I am really not the type of person to misplace a paper clip, let alone a vehicle title, and I can find all other titles to motorcycles, boats and vehicles that we own, but for some reason not this one. Now looking to trade in the truck I realized I can't find the title. That dealership does nto do NH registration so back then I got the paper tags and took care of registration myself at my regional DMV office. On the left side under "LIENHOLDER" it says "NONE." I also have the carbon copy of the cashier's check from the bank. This can be seen from the "Motor Vehicle Cash Purchase Agreement" which I still have. I paid CASH - no lien, no loan, no financing. I bought a brand new truck in 2007 from a dealership in MA. I am having a doozy of a problem and I am curious if anyone else has ever heard of such a thing happening.
